Popcorn Making and Family Home Evening Adventures!

I decided a couple weeks ago that I was going to make carmel corn and take it to our friends in the ward for Christmas. So Sunday night we made a list of people, visiting teachees, home teachees, the rest of the Relief Society Presidency (I am the secretary), and our friends. We decided that we should hand them out this week since school is ending soon, and we are planning on leaving for the break soon too. We went to the store to gather the few supplies that we didn't have, and set to work. Marc had some homework to do, so I popped the popcorn in our stove top popper! This is what it looked like after I popped all that we thought we needed.

It is in a paper grocery sack, but that it part of the recipe! Don't worry, I'll add it at the end. Next you make the carmel, the best part, it can be done in the microwave in just a few minutes! As I was making the carmel, Marc decided he could put his homework on hold, I think he liked how it smelled! He helped me pour the carmel into the bag, and then shake it up! Here he is working hard on shaking it! We should have used 2 bags since we doubled it!

Then we set it out to cool, and I forgot to take pictures! We then divided it into all the bags to hand out, and realized that it wasn't enough! So, we decided to make one more batch, we knew we didn't have enough brown sugar, so we decided to drizzle chocolate on it! I will apologize to anyone who had it, because I didn't like it too much! I don't know what happened, but it was really gooey even after letting it sit, we used a little in each bag to top it off. I have had it before and it is pretty good! I don't know where we went wrong! Here is what the chocolate popcorn looked like,

Then, we loaded up the bags, and put little Christmas tags on them. This is what they looked like after we finished putting them together.

We then headed off into the cold night air! I forgot to mention that when we woke up Monday morning there was a couple inches of snow covering EVERYTHING (snow pictures to come soon)! So, we made our way to each apartment, luckily we all live in the same place, and delivered the popcorn! When we got home we checked the temperature, it was a toasty 24 degrees! I bundled up pretty good! But my nose was pretty red! Here I am after coming home from our cold adventure!

Here is the recipe, it is super easy, and fun. It goes really fast, and makes yummy carmel corn!

10-12 cups of popped popcorn= 1/2 cup unpopped (Don't use microwave popcorn, air popped is the best!)
Place popcorn in a paper grocery sack.
In a glass container combine:
1 cube butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup light Karo Syrup
Microwave on high for 3 minutes, stir, microwave another 2 minutes
Then stir in
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
Pour over popped popcorn, fold down top of bag and shake.
Microwave on high (in the paper bag) 1 1/2 minutes.
Shake and microwave 1 minute.
Shake one last time, then pour onto a greased cookie sheet to cool.

Let me know if you make it and what you think! Marc was surprised that it went so fast and tasted so good!

I actually really liked the chocolate popcorn! :) Belle and I ate all of it (both kinds) this morning while watching playhouse Disney. It was really really yummy! And I must say you look really cute in that last picture... the color of your coat is perfect on you!

Sounds yummy. I need to do neighbor gifts still, but I have 25 on my list! It seems daunting to have that many.
